
Rules & Regulations
General Rules
Non-swimmers, 17 years of age or younger, must be supervised at all times by an adult or responsible guardian. A non-swimmer is anyone who cannot swim the length of the pool.
*Swimmers, 13 years of age or older, are allowed to swim at the pool without an adult or responsible guardian present if they can swim one lap of the pool.
NOTE: Swim privileges will be revoked for any child at the pool without an adult who does not follow pool rules and the instructions of the life guards and/or pool management.
*No cut-offs or street clothes are allowed in the pool. Swim suits are required. Cotton t-shirts are allowed in the pool if worn over an appropriate swim suit.
*Any child in diapers must wear a SWIM DIAPER while in the pool. Regular diapers of any kind are not allowed in the pool. *Food and drink should be in non-breakable containers.
*Please keep all food in the table area by the snack bar.
*Bicycle riders are to walk their bikes up and down the walkway from the parking lot to the pool. No motor vehicles are allowed to drive up the walkway without approval of the pool management. Skates, rollerblades, skateboards, and motorized all-terrain vehicles may not be used anywhere on the center.
*Opening and closing of “the pit” (diving board area) is at the discretion of the lifeguards. Open pit means free swim with diving off the sides allowed. Closed pit means no free swimming and diving only from the board.
*Adult swim is the last 10 minutes of every hour. No one under the age of 18 (with the exception of the lifeguards) is permitted in the pool at this time. This rule includes the pool steps.
*All items left at the pool are placed in the Lost and Found box. This box is cleaned out once each week and all unclaimed items are donated to charity.
*Talking to the lifeguards while they are on the stands is prohibited. Please understand that this rule is for the safety of all swimmers.
*Please do not hang towels to dry on the west fence next to the pool entrance. This blocks the view of our parking area which must be supervised by our pool staff.
*Closing due to inclement weather is at the discretion of the pool management. Any change on the operation hours of the pool will be indicated by email. This message will include information pertinent to the situation for that day. Please call the pool if you have any questions about the weather before you leave home.
Lifeguards
SHRC provides Red Cross Certified lifeguards to ensure your safety. Our guards have the responsibility of professionalism, facility safety, effective surveillance, injury prevention, emergency action plans, water rescue skills, victim assessment prior to providing care, breathing emergencies, first aid and caring for head, neck and spinal injuries.
Electricity
There should be no electrical devices in the pool, spa and hot tub area unless they are installed, maintained and inspected by qualified professionals.
Pool Rules
1. Guests must be signed in by a member of the pool staff at the front desk as they enter the gate for each visit.
2. No one is allowed in the pool with open sores.
3. No smoking is allowed inside the pool fence or by the registration desk.
4. No horseplay, roughhousing, running or pushing of any kind is allowed. Failure to comply with rules will result in the following intervention strategies and disciplinary measures. Defiance of AfS personnel’s authority, refusing punishment, abusive language, fighting or any other non-specified disruptive behavior that threatens the safety and well-being of other members or guests will result in immediate expulsion from AfS premises for the remainder of the day.
5. Eating is Not allowed in or around the pool deck. Please use the picnic area and tables for snacking and meals.
6. Squirt guns or water guns are NOT allowed.
7. One person at a time permitted on diving board and ladders.
8. No pets allowed inside pool fence.
9. Parents are responsible for all non-swimmers in the pool area. Parents are also responsible for children in the baby pool as there is no lifeguard on duty in this area.
10. No diving from the sides is allowed in the pool except in the deep end and during “open pit.”
11. Opening and closing of the pool in inclement weather is at the discretion of the pool manager.
12. The pool management may curtail or restrict any activity on AfS property that interferes, endangers, or otherwise affects the security and enjoyment of other members. Failure to follow the Pool’s rules, respect AfS personnel’s authority, rules and policies will lead to dismissal and banned from the property.
Baby Pool Rules
1. Children 6 and under ONLY are allowed to swim in the baby pool. NO EXCEPTIONS!
2. All children must be accompanied by an adult if inside the fenced pool area. NOTE: There is no lifeguard on duty in this area!
3. Eating and drinking are NOT allowed at the side or inside the baby pool.
4. Children in diapers must wear swim diapers in the baby pool. Regular diapers are NOT allowed.
Pool Safety
The Pool Safety campaign is designed to alert the numerous water safety steps that can be adopted to significantly reduce the number of child drowning deaths that occur each year in the United States.
By practicing the following water safety steps, you can help prevent drowning in residential pools and spas:
